There is a huge shortage of organs in India and patients die while on the waiting list as they do not get an organ on time. A brain-dead person's organs can give a new lease of life to at least nine patients suffering from organ failure.

6th World Organ Donation Day falls on 27th November 2010. MOHAN Foundation (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) organised a special curtain-raiser event to mark this special day- an intercollegiate Short film & Ad spot competition, “Take 2, Give a 2nd Chance at Life!”, on the theme of organ donation on 25th November 2010.
National Organ Donor week is celebrated every year from 8th to 14th August. This year, MOHAN Foundation (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) is organising “Organ-o-Cultural 2010”, a programme to commemorate the deceased organ donors who have passed on their life to others.
23 years old Balachander, who hails from Tiruchinapally, Tamilnadu, was working as a Safety Officer with L&T Limited at Kadapa. He was going by Tata Sumo for routine office related purchases on 16th May when he met with an accident. He was immediately rushed to Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad.
World Kidney Day - 11th March 2010 - focuses on the importance of our kidneys and the vital role that they play in helping us lead healthy lives. The growing incidence of Chronic Kidney Disease has led to an enormous number of patients on dialysis. For these patients, their only hope of ever living a normal life comes from a kidney transplant. The families of deceased donors, by donating the organs of their loved ones even in the midst of their grief, help patients with organ failure get a renewed lease of life.
