    A Teacher Who Inspired Learning Even In Death

    On June 2, 2024, MOHAN Foundation's Helpline received a call from Mr. Bhushan Sharma regarding his critically ill relative, Ms. Nirmaladevi Udhani, aged 80. She had previously registered with MOHAN Foundation for organ and body donation. Seeking guidance on the process, Mr. Sharma reached out to the helpline and Ms. Parul, the helpline counsellor connected the caller to Ms. Jaya Jairam of MOHAN Foundation Mumbai.

    Ms. Jaya contacted Mr. Sharma immediately and provided detailed information on eye, skin, and body donation procedures. During their conversation, Mr. Sharma shared that Ms. Nirmaladevi, a gentle and dedicated teacher at a Sindhi school in Thane East, had a nurturing nature and a strong desire to help others. "She had pledged her organs a decade ago and frequently reminded me and her brothers to honor her last wish. She always carried a printout of her MOHAN Foundation donor card in her purse", he fondly recalled.

    The next morning, Ms. Nirmaladevi passed away. Despite her death from sepsis, which rendered her tissues unfit for donation, her body donation was still possible and Ms. Jaya coordinated with Nair Hospital to facilitate this, ensuring that Ms. Nirmaladevi's body would contribute to medical education and research.

    On June 5, 2024, a prayer meeting was held at a Gurudwara in Thane East to honor Ms. Nirmaladevi's memory. Ms. Jaya attended, presenting an appreciation certificate to the Udhani brothers for fulfilling their sister's final wish. Ms. Nirmaladevi's nephew and his wife praised MOHAN Foundation's work and requested for informative flyers, which were distributed to attendees.

    The following day, Ms. Jaya received several calls from individuals inspired by Ms. Nirmaladevi's legacy, inquiring about how they could pledge their organs and donate their bodies. Through her selfless act, Ms. Nirmaladevi continued to inspire many even after her passing.
