Donor Memorial

  • Mr. Gaurav Wandhare   - 26 Years

On the fateful night of April 10, 2024, tragedy struck 26-year-old Gaurav Wandhare as he encountered a fatal accident near the intersection of Manewada Road in Nagpur. It was around 1:00 am when an anonymous Good Samaritan alerted Gaurav’s family through his mobile phone. Gaurav was then admitted to a nearby hospital while he remained unconscious.

As the clock ticked towards dawn, Gaurav was transferred to the emergency unit at GMCH Trauma Centre for further treatment. Quite tragically, Gaurav was pronounced dead upon arrival.

In the midst of grief, Gaurav's father, Shri Shridhar Wandhare, found solace in the noble act of eye donation. With a heavy heart, he, alongside Gaurav's brother, Jayandra Wandhare, residents Chandrapur, Maharashtra, gave their written consent for the donation of Gaurav's precious eyes, when they were approached by Ms. Bhagyashree Nighot, MOHAN Foundation’s Transplant Coordinator and Grief Counsellor.

Guided by their altruistic gesture, the Ophthalmology team at GMCH’s eye bank meticulously retrieved a pair of corneas from Gaurav's remains. Though Gaurav's physical presence was no longer among them, his legacy lived on through the gift of sight bestowed upon others.

Mr Shridhar Wandhare and Mr Jayandra Wandhare, father and brother of donor Late Gaurav Wandhare, were appreciated with Corneal donation certificate by GMCH eye bank on April 10, 2024.
