On July 24, 2024, a compelling street play titled "Awayavdaan hi Shreshtadaan hai" was performed by medical students at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH), Nagpur. This event was part of the "Angadan JanJagurkta Abhiyan" campaign, initiated by the Government of India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, aimed at raising awareness about organ donation.
The street play, organized in collaboration with the MOHAN Foundation and the Department of Anesthesia at IGGMCH, took place in the OPD area of the hospital. The performance was designed to educate and sensitize visitors about the importance of organ donation. Approximately 200 visitors in the OPD area were engaged 6 people pledged for organ donation and informed through this impactful and creative presentation.
Dr. Vaishali Shelgaonkar, Professor and Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care, emphasized the critical need for organ donation during the event. The street play was conceptualized by Dr. Sanjeev Chaudhari, Associate Professor in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM). The arrangements and coordination for the event were supported by Dr. Sonali Khobragade and Dr. Parag Sable, Associate and Assistant Professors, respectively, in the Department of Anesthesiology at IGGMCH. Veena Wathore from the MOHAN Foundation also played a significant role in the preparations and execution of the event.
The MOHAN Foundation provided essential Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to support the street play and further enhance the outreach. The successful event not only entertained but also educated the audience about the significance of organ donation, contributing significantly to public awareness and engagement in this crucial cause.
