Organ donation awareness for students of Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute

  • An Organ donation awareness session was conducted for 3rd years MBBS students of the Sri Ramachandra Medical College. This program was held at Lecture Hall and was attended by around 150 students and 10 staff. Ms. Arshiya Fathima H (Helpline Counselor) was the resource person for the program. Ms. Sangeetha. K, Organ Donation Ambassador, MOHAN Foundation assisted in the program by distributing information brochures and pinning green ribbons on the students.

    Dr. Suresh Varadarajan, Assistant Professor of Dept. of Community Medicine delivered the welcome speech and felicitation of guests. He spoke about the work of MOHAN Foundation and introduced the guest speaker to the audience.

    The session started with Ms. Arshiya Fathima delivering a talk on the Concepts of Organ Donation. She spoke of the need for organs, what and when donation can happen. She explained brain death, and the difference between brain death and coma. She spoke of tissue and voluntary body donation and also explained the myths people have in their minds. She also gave information on the free service of Organ Donation Helpline 1800 103 7100. At the end of her talk Ms. Arshiya played an educational video on brain death.

    Ms. Arshiya Fathima conducted an online quiz on voluntary body donation, skin and blood donation. The students were divided into batches of 5, and participated with enthusiasm.

    Finally, Dr. Suresh Varadarajan, Assistant Professor delivered the vote of thanks and ended the session.
