Organ Donation Awareness Talk at Public Religious Festival (Utsav) in Nagadevanahalli, Vinayaka Layout, Kengeri, Bangalore

  • On 28th April 2019, Mr. Narsegowdru (Public Social Worker), Sathya (Committee Member of Public Awareness Programme), Govindappa (Bangalore Congress Committee Member), invited MOHAN Foundation to organize an awareness session at Public Religious Festival (Utsav) in Nagadevanahalli, Vinayaka Layout, Kengeri, Bangalore.

     

    The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. S T Somashekar Gowda, MLA, Yeshwanthpur Constituency, & Chairman for Bangalore Development Authority (B.D.A)

     

    MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mrs. Ranjini Shankar M S (Project Manager), Ms. Hemavathi and Mr. Marulappa (Transplant Coordinators)

     

    The following concepts were addressed and brochures, posters & pictorial aids were used during the session.

    • Brain stem death
    • Difference between brain stem death and circulatory death
    • Organs/tissues that can be donated during life, after circulatory death &after brain steam death
    • Difference between Coma & Brain Death
    • Jeevasarthakathe and its role
    • Organ distribution system in Karnataka
    • The burden of organ failure and need for organ donation
    • Donor card

     

    During the interaction, the audience raised their queries on the following - Brain stem death certification – Process, importance of time factor in organ transportation, organ donation after circulatory death – current views

     

    Around 45 people attended the programme. After understanding the concepts a few of them expressed their wish to pledge for organ donation.
