On December 9,2022, a walkathon was organised for the first time in Manipur by the MOHAN Foundation in collaboration with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and Shija Hospital and Research Institute Pvt. Ltd. to create awareness on organ donation and generate public support for the cause.
Prof. Deben Singh, Director of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Porompat, Imphal, flagged off the walkathon from the western Kangla gate. He enthusiastically completed the walkathon of 4.5 kilometres and said, "After one’s last breath, everyone can donate the organs to save the precious lives of other human beings." People from various walks of life participated in the walkathon, including healthcare professionals, students, and senior members of the Indian Red Cross Society and Rotary Clubs.
Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director accompanied by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer and Ms. Th. Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator participated in the walkathon. During the walk, the participants held different banners and placards with inspiring slogans related to organ donation. The participants were in uniform with a white T-shirt with the slogan, “Change the ending to someone’s story, be an organ donor.”
At the end of the walkathon that concluded in JNIMS premsies, Prof. Deben expressed the need for public’s understanding towards the cause of saving lives even after death. He also updated on the status of living donor renal transplantation in JNIMS under the able leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh.
In continuation to the event, Ms. Pallavi also stated that if we continue to support one another for this noble cause, we can save more lives, also one deceased donor can save up to nine lives. Ms. Monica appreciated the participants and informed that an individual can pledge during his/her lifetime by signing a donor card; however, it is very important that they discuss the same with the family as the family is the final decision maker.

Close to 300 participated in the walkathon.
