MOHAN Foundation invited to conduct organ donation awareness session at the ICICI Foundation Academy for Skills, Kolkata, West Bengal

  • On December 13, 2022, MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an awareness session on organ donation for the students pursuing livelihood training from ICICI Academy for Skills, Kolkata, West Bengal. Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation, NCR was approached by Ms. Tanusree Saha Mahanti, Faculty & Centre Incharge, ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth.

     

    Since MOHAN Foundation does not have any office in Kolkata, Ms. Pallavi requested Dr. Ramdip Ray, MBBS, MS, MRCS (England), Fellowship in Liver Transplant & HPB Surgery, Apollo Multispecialty Hospitals, Kolkata to conduct the session. Dr. Ray is a passionate supporter of organ donation and has been working closely with MOHAN Foundation to spread awareness on the cause.

     

    The session was part of a drive that is being conducted by MOHAN Foundation (MF), pursuant to collaboration between Transplants Help the Poor Foundation and ICICI Foundation. MF works closely with Transplants Help the Poor Foundation. As part of the campaign, sessions to raise awareness have been held at other ICICI Foundation locations in different cities across India. 

     

    The following topics were explained with the help of a PowerPoint presentation by MF Faculty 

    • Organ donation and its need in the society
    • When and how does organ donation take place
    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death
    • Transplant waiting list in India
    • Brain death
    • Difference between brain death and coma
    • Role of MOHAN Foundation
    • Myths and facts about organ donation
    • Eye donation

     

    Dr Ray answered the various queries that came up post his presentation.

     

    Close to 63 students participated in the session.
