On May 26, 2023, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation for the batch of bus drivers of DTC undergoing refresher training at DTC Training School, Nand Nagri Depot, Delhi. MF has already conducted three OD sessions for different batches of bus drivers and conductors as per the schedule for conducting OD sessions prepared by DTC Headquarters for May 2023. This was the fourth session within the month. Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer, MF Delhi office, was the resource person for the session.
Ms. Simran introduced MF to the participants and then asked the participants if any one of them had pledged to organ donation on driving licence application forms. All the participants then displayed their DL; some had selected ‘yes’ to organ donation, but many had selected "no, and told Ms. Simran that they were unaware of the concept of OD, which was the reason for selecting "no."
She then explained the basic concept of organ donation to the participants. The term brain death was explained with the help of a short informative film. Ms. Simran explained to the participants the various steps involved in a brain death declaration and clarified the concept of legal death. The following topics were explained in detail:
One participant shared his family’s experience with the eye donation of his mother-in-law after her death. Dr. C.P. Singh, former training inspector, DTC Training School, Nand Nagri, attended the full session and expressed his thanks for the informative session. He also motivated the participants to contribute to the life-saving cause of organ donation.. Throughout the session, the participants frequently posed questions. To name a few.
Close to 80 participants attended the session.
