On May 22, 2023, MOHAN Foundation conducted a session on organ donation for the conductors of DTC at the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) Training School, Nand Nagri Depot, Delhi. These conductors have been receiving intensive training. This was the third session, which was conducted according to the training schedule prepared by DTC Headquarters for the month of May. Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation-Delhi NCR, was the resource person for the session, and she was accompanied by Ms. Preeti Goswami, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation-Delhi NCR.
The DTC Training School is situated at the Nand Nagari Depot Complex in Delhi and is well equipped with the required infrastructure and faculty to impart training to drivers, conductors, and other allied staff. Besides training, driving tests are also conducted here.
Ms. Simran began the session by explaining the need for organ donation in India and international statistics on organ donation so that the audience could understand how India is lagging behind other countries with an organ donation rate of less than one per million people. She also explained the myths and facts about organ donation to dispel the participants misconceptions and inaccuracies. Ms. Simran then explained the concept of organ donation with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. The following topics were explained in detail:
A short movie on "brain death" was also shown to the audience to give clarity on the subject. During the session, a participant shared his experience of taking care of his father, who was a kidney patient and was on dialysis. He stated that he only realised the significance of organ donation after witnessing his own father's agony while anxiously awaiting a kidney.
Ms. Preeti informed the participants about the MOHAN Foundation’s life-saving programme called Anudaan, "Making Transplants Affordable". She explained Anudaan’s concept, criteria, and procedure in detail.
