On September 23, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation conducted a awareness session on organ donation for the staff members of Union Bank Nerul Branch. The session was led by Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi, who began by introducing the MOHAN Foundation as a not-for-profit NGO dedicated to advancing organ donation awareness.
Ms. Prarthana provided a comprehensive overview of key concepts related to organ donation, including the differences between circulatory death and brain death. She explained the various organs and tissues that can be donated in both scenarios, such as corneas, skin, bones, and more. Additionally, she discussed newer medical advancements, including the possibility of hand donation, which further emphasizes the evolving landscape of organ transplantation.
The session highlighted the profound impact of organ and tissue donation through real-life success stories and informative articles, including news reports about green corridors that facilitate swift organ transportation. Ms. Prarthana addressed common myths surrounding deceased organ donation, providing factual clarifications to help dispel misunderstandings. She emphasized the importance of having open conversations about organ donation with family members and the utility of carrying a Donor Card in one’s wallet or purse to clearly communicate one’s wishes.
The session was attended by 12 staff members of Union Bank Nerul Branch. We extend our sincere thanks to the manager, Mr. Pratik, for inviting us, and to all the staff for their support in promoting the crucial cause of organ donation. Together, we can work towards saving lives and fostering a culture of organ donation in our community.
