On September 21, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation conducted a sensitization session on organ donation for the members of Bay Bliss CHS Society in Ulwe, Navi Mumbai. This important session was led by Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi, a Public Education Counsellor from the MOHAN Foundation, who provided valuable insights into the topic.
Ms. Dwivedi began by introducing the MOHAN Foundation as a not-for-profit NGO dedicated to advancing organ donation awareness and the vital work it undertakes in this field. She explained the fundamental concepts of organ donation, emphasizing the differences between circulatory death and brain death. Through her detailed presentation, she outlined the various organs and tissues that can be donated in both scenarios, including corneas, skin, bones, and more.
Throughout the session, Ms. Dwivedi addressed common myths surrounding deceased organ donation, providing factual clarifications to help dispel misconceptions. She stressed the importance of having open conversations about organ donation with family members, as well as the significance of carrying a Donor Card in one’s wallet or purse to communicate one’s wishes.
The session saw an enthusiastic turnout of 75 participants, and notably, 45 individuals pledged their commitment to organ donation. This strong response underscores the community's willingness to support this vital cause. We extend our sincere thanks to the coordinator of the society, Ms. Shraddha Jalna, for inviting us, and to all the participants for their support in promoting organ donation awareness. Together, we can make a difference in saving lives through the gift of organ donation.
