Awareness Session on Organ Donation at OT Department of Apollo Hospital, Mumbai

    On 3rd June 2024, MOHAN Foundation conducted an organ donation awareness session at the OT Department of Apollo Hospital. The session aimed to educate and sensitize the critical care staff regarding the importance and process of organ donation. The session was organized by Mrs. Savita Desaii, the in-charge sister, and conducted by Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi, Public Educational Counsellor from MOHAN Foundation.

     

    The session covered several key topics related to organ donation:

    1. Introduction to MOHAN Foundation: Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi provided an overview of MOHAN Foundation and explained its mission.
    2. The concept of organ donation was discussed, including the different types such as donations from living donors.
    3. Types of Death Relevant to Organ Donation:
      • Brain Death
      • Circulatory Death
    4. Clarification was provided on the difference between brain death and coma, emphasizing the irreversibility of brain death.
    5. The distinction between living and deceased donors was explained, highlighting the scenarios under which each type of donation occurs.
    6. Common myths surrounding organ donation were addressed, and factual information was provided to dispel any misconceptions.
    7. The significance of carrying a donor card was underscored, stressing its role in expressing an individual's wish to donate organs.

     

    The session saw active participation from 18 nursing staff members of the OT department. The attendees expressed gratitude to Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi for her informative and inspiring presentation. Many participants were motivated to pledge their commitment to organ donation, recognizing its potential to save lives.

     

    The session concluded on a positive note, with participants appreciating the opportunity to deepen their understanding of organ donation. MOHAN Foundation extends its thanks to Mrs. Savita Desaii for facilitating the session and Apollo Hospital for supporting initiatives related to organ donation.
