On July 19, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation organized an awareness program at Pennathur Government High School, Vellore for students of class 11. The program aimed to inform the students about the significance of organ donation, inspire them to consider becoming future donors, and correct common misconceptions by presenting reliable and clear information about how donation works.
The program was organised by Maheswari H and Swethapriya S (interns at MOHAN Foundation) and they were guided by Mr. Ganesh (Marketing Executive). The event started with honouring the dignitaries Mr. K Vishwanadhan (District Vice President, Tamil Nadu Science Movement) and Mr. Umadevan (School HM). Sir Vishwanadhan began with a welcome speech and brief introduction on organ donation to the students. Followed by a comprehensive 30-minute presentation covering the basics, types, laws, and common myths about organ donation. The students engaged enthusiastically throughout the session, which featured interactive elements such as quizzes to maintain their interest and participation. Animated videos were also played, encouraging the students to conceptualize and connect the scenarios with organ donation and transplantation. This innovative approach helped in clarifying the concepts and made the learning experience more impactful. Additionally, the students were given postcards to provide their feedback, and everyone wrote heart warming and thoughtful responses.
The presence of dignitaries and experts in the field added to the credibility and depth of the information shared. Their insights and personal stories resonated with the students, further highlighting the importance and impact of organ donation. The program successfully fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation for organ donation among the young participants. Around 66 students both boys and girls, participated in the event and they were happy to learn about organ donation which is not a part of their curriculum. The students had a positive impact by the program. Everyone in the event pinned the green ribbon as a symbol of their support for organ donation and were given an information brochure about organ donation. .
