On July 26, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation held an awareness program on organ donation at Ariyur Government High School, Vellore for students of class 9th and 10th. The program aimed to inform the students about the significance of organ donation, correct common misconceptions by presenting reliable and clear information about how donation works and inspire them to consider becoming future donors.
The program was organised by Maheswari H and Swethapriya S (interns at MOHAN Foundation). The event started with honouring the dignitaries Mr. K. Vishwanadhan (District Vice President, Tamil Nadu Science Movement) and Mr. Nandhakumar (School HM). Mr. Vishwanadhan began with a welcome speech in remembrance of Kargil Vijay Diwas and brief introduction on organ donation to the students. The core of the program was a 30 - minute presentation that covered the fundamentals, types, legal aspects, and common myths surrounding organ donation. The students actively engaged in the session, which included interactive elements such as quizzes to sustain their interest and participation. Animated videos were also showcased to help the students visualize and relate to scenarios involving organ donation and transplantation. This innovative approach clarified complex concepts and enhanced the overall learning experience. Additionally, the students were given postcards to provide their feedback, and everyone wrote heartwarming and thoughtful responses.
The presence of dignitaries and experts in the field added to the credibility and depth of the information shared. Their insights and personal stories resonated with the students, further highlighting the importance and impact of organ donation. Around 60 students both boys and girls participated in the event and they were happy to learn about organ donation which is not a part of their curriculum. The students had a positive impact by the program. Everyone in the event pinned the green ribbon as a symbol of their support for organ donation.
MOHAN Foundation thanks Mr. Vishwanadhan and Mr. Nandhakumar for giving us this opportunity.
