On the 7th of February 2021, the MOHAN Foundation Jaipur Citizen Forum (MFJCF) organised a web talk titled 'Yeh Dil Ki Baat Hai' to create awareness about organ donation.
The program was moderated by Mr. Ravi Kamra, Member, MFJCF and it featured the following experts who enlightened the audience on various topics:
Shri Rajiv Arora, Chairman MFJCF spoke about MFJCF and the work done by the organisation throughout Rajasthan.
Dr. K R Balakrishnan – Chairman, Cardiac Sciences and Director, Institute of Heart and Lung Transplant & Mechanical Circulatory Support at MGM Healthcare, Chennai spoke about lung and heart transplants. Dr. Balakrishnan performed the first permanent artificial heart transplant in India with HeartMate II LVAD and performed the largest number of heart transplants in India. He has performed several cardiac surgeries in India, including the first paediatric heart transplant on a 2-year-old Russian child. His areas of expertise include end-stage heart failure management (heart transplant & VAD implant), paediatric cardiac surgery, lung transplant, and heart and lung transplant. He has received numerous awards for his work and his work has been published in some of the highest-ranking medical journals. He has so far performed 326+ successful heart transplants and 1000+ heart surgeries.
Mr. Ravi Jain, Transport Commissioner, Rajasthan spoke on the importance of having a heart sign on our driving licence, indicating our wish to be an organ donor. Mr. Jain, IAS is posted as Secretary to Government, Transport Department & Commissioner, Transport Department, Rajasthan, Jaipur. He earlier was the Collector & District Magistrate, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan.
Dr. Sunil Shroff, Founder & Managing Trustee of MOHAN Foundation, also a Senior Consultant Urologist & Transplant Surgeon, Madras Medical Mission, spoke about how MOHAN Foundation has evolved as front runner in the field of organ donation.
Dr. Sumana Navin, Course Director at MOHAN Foundation, emphasized the importance of implementation of driving licence programme throughout the country and shared ideas to achieve it.
