Updated on Friday, March 5, 2021
  • A total of 10 participants including students of Symbiosis Law College, Hyderabad and an agriculture student from Kolhapur were trained in the 2nd Module of Organ Donation Ambassadors Programme which took place virtually on 1st March 2021. The training commenced with introductions and feedback for Module 1.

Experts present to answer queries were Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee of MOHAN Foundation, Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director, Ms. Jaya Jairam, Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi,  Ms. Ishwarya Thyagarajan  and Dr. Hemal Kanvinde of MOHAN Foundation. The discussions were on the ethics of donation, need for donation, need for counselling, process of donation in a hospital, opt in and opt out systems followed in the world, and  understanding brain death.

Following the interaction, a session on Gratitude and Communication was conducted by Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi. The letters written during this session were read out. Deep bonds were formed where one participant recalled the loss of his mother to kidney disease, another spoke of his maternal grandfather’s body donation and another spoke of her uncle’s life- saving liver transplant that took place in Chennai.

The modes of communication was explained by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde  through an illustrative presentation. The participants understood the  different ways that they can use to create awareness.

In their assigned breakout rooms groups, participants prepared presentations of 3 - 4 slides on select topics on organ donation. Every room had a MOHAN Foundation staff to guide them. After the exercise the leader of each team presented their work and were guided by others to improve their presentations. All participants gained some confidence in speaking with others on organ donation. A poll was conducted to identify the most comfortable way of creating awareness and most participants chose to do awareness talks.

Feedback and planning the awareness initiatives were part of the last segment of the programme.
