On 18th October 2011, MOHAN Foundation team was invited by Mr. Govinda Krishnan - Founder of “Nethrodaya”. Nethrodaya is a self-help institution for the differently abled (Visually & physically challenged). Started in 2002, it provides a host of career enabling facilities to underprivileged boys and girls, most of them hailing from rural areas.
As a part of an awareness programme, the concept of organ donation was explained to the inmates of Nethrodaya. The presentation was done both in English and Tamil. Ms. Jessi, Transplant Coordinator initiated the programme and gave inputs on whole body donation, the procedures and the formalities that a person needs to follow for registration. The concept of organ donation and the importance of donor card was explained to them. Few of them were not able to understand the difference between organ donation and whole body donation and it was clarified by Ms. Jessi.
Around 50 enthusiastic people participated in this programme. Mr. Govinda Krishnan, the founder, said that "visually and physically challenged people are normal like other human beings and they can also contribute more to the society".They wanted to showcase this attitude to the society through this presentation. More than 20 people picked up the donor card.
The programme was very interactive and all their doubts were clarified.
