Suretech College of Nursing, Nagpur organizes a talk on organ donation

  • On 17th February, MOHAN Foundation was invited by A. Babukutty, Principal of Suretech College of Nursing, Jamtha, Nagpur to give a talk on Deceased Organ Donation. Dr. Ravi  Wankhede, Director, Miss. Kanchan Shewde &  Mr. Bulu Behera  transplant coordinators MOHAN Foundation,  Nagpur  and  Dr. Hemal  Kanvinde  from MOHAN Foundation, Chennai addressed the nursing students.

    Dr. Hemal spoke to the students about organ donation and the role of a nurse and a transplant coordinator during the process of deceased organ donation.  

    Dr. Hemal explained following points which are given below

    1. Organs and tissues that can be donated.
    2. Natural death, brain death and coma
    3. Causes of brain death and the need for early identification
    4. Stages of grief
    5. True Case studies of deceased organ donation
    6. Role of Nurses in ICU for deceased organ donation
    7. Multiple duties of a transplant coordinator
    8. Hindrances  to organ donation
    9. Information about transplant coordinator training program

     

      Dr. Ravi Wankhede  started his session with a Q and A round and then explained the following: 

    1. Processes of live donation.
    2. Gave information about kidney transplant.
    3. Blood and blood banking.

    Ms Kanchan and Mr Bulu Behera spoke about the opportunity to pledge organs and about cornea donation.

    Nursing students, teaching and Non-teaching staff of Suretech Nursing College, 95 in all were present  during the session.  61  of them signed the pledge forms and others promised to pick a donor card on their 18th birthday.
