Self-help Group Members in Chikkaballapur District learn about Organ Donation

  • Mrs. Hemavathi BN, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session for members of a Self-help Group in Bathalahalli, a village in the Chikkaballapur district. Around 24 members attended the session on 27th July 2021.

    Mrs. Hemavathi initiated the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and its activities, continued with the importance and need for organ donation, explained in brief about brain stem death and touched upon the role of Jeevasarthakathe, the transplant law and the importance of donor card. She also gave some live examples of donations which took place recently and explained briefly on skin donation.

    During the interaction, the audience raised the following questions:

    • Registration process for pledging organs
    • Do patients have to pay for organs?
    • Will organ donors’ families get organs if someone requires a transplant?

    Four people pledged their organs and collected their donor cards.
