On November 13, 2024, the Rotary Club Rishikesh Divas invited MOHAN Foundation to set up an information desk to promote organ donation at a blood donation camp held at Seema Dental Medical Hospital & Institute, Rishikesh. The invitation was extended by Ms. Tanu Jain, President of the Rotary Club Rishikesh Divas.
The event combined a voluntary blood donation drive with an awareness campaign on organ donation.
Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader at MOHAN Foundation stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh, managed the information desk, which garnered interest from hospital staff, resident doctors, blood camp volunteers, and blood donors.
Participants raised various questions, including:
• What is brain death?
• Do families of organ donors receive any benefits?
• How can skin be donated, and how much is typically retrieved?
• What is the time frame for making a skin donation after death?
• What distinguishes organ donation from whole body donation?
• How can individuals register at AIIMS Rishikesh for kidney transplants?
• Who oversees organ allocation—hospitals or government agencies?
• Can the organ donation form be completed online, and what are the steps?
• Can someone who has had cataract surgery donate their eyes?
• Who should be contacted for eye donation if someone passes away at home?
• What is the process for whole body donation?
• Are all hospitals equipped to handle organ allocation?
• What is the purpose of an organ donor card?
• Are donor families ever introduced to organ recipients?
All queries were answered at the desk, and informational materials, including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on organ donation, were distributed to visitors.
Approximately 25 individuals visited the desk during the event, and many expressed their willingness to pledge for organ donation.
This initiative effectively combined the spirit of giving through blood donation with the promotion of organ donation, spreading awareness and inspiring action among the attendees.
