On April 7, 2025 MOHAN Foundation team visited the Family Planning Association of India, (FPA) Chennai branch. The program was initiated by intern Ms. Anood as part of her internship requirements for the organization. The team consisted of Program Executive Ms. Sangeetha, Marketing Coordinator Mr. Ganesh, and Intern Ms. Anood Jafar from Manipal University.
The team arrived at 10:30 AM and met with the program officer of the Family Planning Association Mr. Rinu Raj. This program was conducted for 46 community members in celebration of World Health Day, with the beneficiaries being regular visitors of the Urban Family Welfare Center (UFWC) and nursing students of Vijaya Health Academy. The event was inaugurated by the head nurse of the center, Mrs. Delecta Mary, followed by a welcoming speech from the branch manager of FPA, who outlined the objectives of the day's program.
Dr. Alarmel Mangai, the medical officer of UFWC, spoke about the importance of spirituality in healing the body in addition to traditional medicine. She emphasized, “On World Health Day, we’re not asking you to go for health check-ups; it’s better to address the causes rather than just focus on treatment. Keep your body and mind healthy and at peace.” She also discussed the significance of tissue and organ donation and introduced the staff of the MOHAN Foundation, commending their noble cause.
Students from Vijaya Nursing College, who were also interning, presented an informative poster about hand hygiene and performed a handwashing tutorial dance, which was engaging for the audience. Following this, Ms. Sangeetha K gave a detailed presentation on eye donation. She spoke of the need, registration and process of eye donation. Mr. Ganesh provided a glimpse on organ donation and the myths surrounding it.
At the end of the session, one beneficiary remarked, “The session was so detailed I don’t have any doubts.” 18 people picked a donor card. The program concluded with expressions of gratitude from the staff of FPA, after which the MOHAN Foundation team met with FPA’s administrative office to discuss future events.
