  • On November 26, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation set up an organ donation awareness stall at the Super Speciality Hospital, Tukdoji Square, Nagpur. The event was coordinated by Mr. Bulu J. Behera, Transplant Coordinator, with support from Dr. Sushama Thakare, Officer on Special Duty. The stall, located near the OPD for kidney patients and their families, was equipped with donor cards, banners, standees, and informational pamphlets to raise awareness about organ donation.

Mr. Behera shared valuable insights into various aspects of organ and tissue donation, including which organs can be donated after both natural and brain death, as well as the time and age factors involved in organ transplantation. He also discussed the ethical and legal considerations surrounding organ donation and highlighted the significance of donor cards and helpline numbers. Additionally, information on government financial support for transplants and body donation, including advanced procedures like hand and leg transplants, was provided.

The stall approximately visited by 45 visitors, with 2 individuals taking the pledge for organ donation on-site. Several others expressed interest in registering online. Common queries raised by visitors included questions about the lifespan of kidney transplant recipients, whom to contact after brain death for organ donation, and the cost of a liver transplant.

The MOHAN Foundation extends its gratitude to Dr. Sushama Thakare for enabling this important initiative and supporting the cause of organ donation awareness.
