MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an awareness program on Organ Donation for the 243 Grade II constables from Puducherry and Cuddalore at the Avadi Police Recruit School (PRS). This program was conducted on 08th March 2018 from 4PM to 6PM by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer and Mr. Siva Shankar, Helpline Executive from MOHAN Foundation.
The program started at 4 PM by a welcome speech by Dr. S. Selvakumar-Assistant Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police. Dr. Selvakumar had previous experience in organ donation cases in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Stanley Medical College and Hospital and Apollo Hospitals in Chennai. He introduced the staff of MOHAN Foundation to the participants.
Dr. Hemal Kanvinde gave a small introduction of herself and the activities in MOHAN Foundation. The session was then followed by Mr. Siva Shankar who gave an elaborate talk on Concepts of Organ Donation. He first introduced himself to the participants and his role in MOHAN Foundation and he started explaining the concepts. He went through with the organs that can be donated while living and after death, he explained brain death. He explained the main principles of Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994 under which every hospital works on Organ Donation. He explained the difference between Brain Death and Coma, because everyone was confused when a question was raised about the difference between Brain Death and Coma. The importance of donor card was clearly delivered.

The session ended with a small quiz conducted by Dr. Selvakumar and helpline stickers were given to those who answered. MOHAN Foundation thanks Avadi PRS for adding Concept of Organ donation in their training syllabus. Every trainee picked a donor card and supported this noble cause.
