Organ Donation Awareness at Nehru Yuva Kendra, Nagpur

  • On October 31st 2019, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mr. Sanjaya Raut. He is the Office In-charge of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Bajaj Nagar in Nagpur. Mr. Bulu Behera, the Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur was invited as a speaker to speak on organ donation and transplantation. Mr. Raut gave a brief introduction about organ donation and its requirement.

    The event was organized commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the Rashtriya Ekata Diwas and the Nehru Yuva Kendra volunteers were sensitized about the importance of the day as well.

    The program began by 11.00 AM and around 80 participants were present on the occasion. Mr. Bulu Behera, in his talk introduced MOHAN Foundation and explained about organ and tissue donation. Mr. Behera delivered a detailed presentation on the subject and covered a wide range of topics. He explained the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, including the offences and penalties related to malpractices in organ donation.

    The following topics were discussed in detail:

    • What is organ failure and its causes?
    • Who can donate organs?
    • When can organs be donated?
    • What is living donation?
    • What is natural death and brain death?
    • What is brain death and coma?
    • Age criteria to donate organ.
    • What is the time period of donate organs?
    • Myths and misconceptions around organ donation.
    • How to register as an organ donor?

    All their doubts were clarified by Mr. Bulu Behera. Around 10 participants registered as organ donors and received their donor cards. The program came to an end at 2 PM.
