  • On July 26, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Anaesthesia at IGGMCH, Nagpur, hosted an Organ Donation Awareness Workshop at the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur. This workshop was part of the "Angadan JanJagurkta Abhiyan" campaign, initiated by the Government of India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The event commenced with a welcome speech by Dr. Atul Vaidhya, Director of NEERI, who highlighted the critical importance of organ donation. Dr. Vaidhya not only pledged to donate his organs but also inspired the audience to make their own pledges. Dr. Mrs. Shilpa Paranjape, Principal Technical Officer, and Dr. Prashanti Niwant, Senior Technical Officer, introduced the guest speakers and facilitated the session.

Under the guidance of Dr. Ravi Chauhan, Dean of IGGMCH and Professor and Head of the Department of Anaesthesia, Dr. Vaishali Shelgaonkar delivered a comprehensive lecture on the "Overview of the Deceased Organ Donation Scenario in India." This lecture provided valuable insights into the current state of organ donation in the country.

Dr. Tapan Bodele, a Physician and Intensivist at Meditrina Hospital, followed with a detailed presentation on "Organ Donation After Brain Death & Circulatory Death." This was followed by an open forum designed to address and dispel common myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation.

The sessions were meticulously organized by Dr. Parag Sabale, Assistant Professor; Mr. Dewang Chhaya, MOHAN Foundation Ambassador; and Veena Wathore, Project Manager. The workshop successfully engaged 55 attendees and 12 pledged for organ donation, fostering a deeper understanding of organ donation and encouraging more individuals to consider pledging their organs.
