Updated on Saturday, January 4, 2025
  • On December 26, 2024, MOHAN Foundation (MF) organized an awareness session on organ donation for Traffic Police personnel at the Traffic Police Headquarters, Todapur, New Delhi. The session was facilitated by Ms. Simran Anand and Ms. Sanya Santosh, Programme Officers at MOHAN Foundation, NCR.

Ms. Simran began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation to the participants and explaining the concept of a “Green Corridor,” highlighting the crucial role traffic police officers play in its implementation. She also discussed the organ donation clause in driving licenses and asked participants if they were aware of it or had pledged to donate their organs. One participant mentioned that he was unaware of the clause and had selected "No" while obtaining his license.

Following this, Ms. Sanya provided an in-depth overview of organ donation. She explained the concept in detail, including the process of brain death. Key topics covered during the session included:

    • The importance of organ donation in society

    • Living and deceased organ donation

    • Organ donation during life and after death

    • Brain death and the steps involved in its declaration

During the session, one participant shared that he had pledged to be an organ donor. Motivated by the discussion, he invited MF to conduct awareness sessions for his fellow police personnel and their families at the Police Colony.

When addressing myths and facts about organ donation, one participant highlighted that families often refuse organ donation due to its time-consuming nature. Ms. Simran acknowledged this concern and explained that the process is indeed lengthy, requiring the involvement of a multidisciplinary team.

The session concluded with the message: “If someone in our family is suffering from organ failure, we will go to any extent to save their life. But when we have the chance to save others’ lives, myths cloud our minds.”

Ms. Simran and Ms. Sanya also announced the streaming of the movie Aye Zindagi on Zee5. The film narrates the inspirational story of Ms. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director of MOHAN Foundation, and her family’s decision to donate her son’s organs after he was declared brain dead.

Approximately 25 participants attended the session and gained valuable insights into organ donation.
