Managing International Tranplant Patients was the Masterclass's focus. Examining the legal, ethical, and procedural framework was the goal in order to guarantee patient safety during transplants and process integrity and compliance. This online seminar organized by MOHAN Foundation and NATCO was held on Feb 28, 2025.
Ms. Trilly Rachel Mathew of the Alliance for Paired Kidney Donation-India and the Middle East and Ms. Wasim Mughal of Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi were the speakers, who were moderated by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Q&A Officer, MOHAN Foundation.
Ms. Trilly discussed foreign transplants and transplant patient status in India. According to her, over 1800 foreign nationals received transplants in India in 2023, making up around 10% of all transplants performed. She added that the majority of the patients were from Nepal, Sri Lanka, and West Bengal. She listed the factors that have contributed to India's rise as a living donor transplant destination, including the Heal in India initiative, which helps patients by facilitating the issuance of medical visas and streamlining procedures. She also discussed the challenges faced by foreigners seeking transplants in India.
The participants were guided by Mr. Mohammed Wasim Mughal through the legal procedures necessary for a foreign national to have a successful organ transplant. He went into great depth regarding the forms and the laws. He described the potential locations for fraud occurrences and the OTMS mechanisms his hospital has in place to help the transplant coordinator spot any fraudulent cases.According to him, obtaining the embassy's verification of all documentation was essential to guaranteeing the patient's safe and early transplant. After three months of post-transplant treatment at the center, the patient is typically permitted to return home.

The masterclass, which was attended by fifty transplant coordinators, later discussed topics such as patient safety and the necessity of a guidebook to assist new centers in initiating foreign national transplants.
