MOHAN Foundation invited to the Fifth Collaborative Conclave for Organ Donation organised by the ORGAN India under the aegis of NOTTO at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi

  • On August 4, 2024, ORGAN India invited MOHAN Foundation to participate in the 5th Collaborative Conclave for Organ Donation held at Silver Oak Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The programme was conducted under the aegis of the National Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organization (NOTTO). Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director of MOHAN Foundation (MF), Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi, Programme Manager of MF, and Ms. Sanya Santosh, Programme Officer of MF, represented MOHAN Foundation at the event.

     

    The chief guest of the event was Prof. (Dr.) Atul Goel, Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The conclave was attended by medical professionals, NGO representatives, and SOTTO and ROTTO representatives.

     

    Prof. (Dr.) Atul Goel, Dr. Anil Kumar, Director of NOTTO, and Ms. Anika Parashar, Chairperson of the Parashar Foundation, lighted the lamp to begin the conclave.

     

    In his address to the audience, Dr. Goel emphasized the disparity between the supply and demand for organs in India, highlighting the importance of preventing organ wastage. He also discussed the rising cases of accidents and lifestyle-related issues in India, urging people to prioritize their lifestyle and health to avoid organ failures.

     

    Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi introduced MF during the introduction round of NGOs via a PowerPoint presentation, covering the following points:

    • Introduction of MF

    • The pivotal role of public awareness in sensitizing the public

    • Organ donation ambassador training programme

    • Manipur as an emerging state in organ donation

    • Anudaan: Making Transplants Affordable

     

    Ms. Kumar addressed the topic of Health Insurance for Living Donors and Transplant Recipients with the help of a PowerPoint presentation, which included:

    • Genesis of organ donation and transplantation in India

    • Present scenario in India vs. USA

    • Statistical data showing India is leading in living organ donation

    • Challenges in deceased organ donation in India

    • Research demonstrating that living kidney donors experience normal post-transplant lifespans

    • Advanced immunosuppression medicines during the induction period of transplantation lowering the risk of rejection in recipients

    • Statistical data on recipient outcomes in kidney, liver, and heart transplantations

    • True accounts of transplant recipients who went on to lead happier, healthier, and longer lives

     

    Other esteemed speakers covered the following topics:

    • Facilitating body donation through NGOs

    • Hand donation in IEC material and awareness

    • Transplant games in India and abroad

    • Discussion rounds, including Pre Chintan Shivir Deliberations

     

    At the end, a vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Aprajita Verma, Chief Operating Officer of ORGAN India.

     

    Close to 80 participants from 17 NGOs, 5 State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organizations (SOTTOs) and 2 Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organizations (ROTTOs) attended the conclave.
