MOHAN Foundation, in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, organized a “Felicitation of the Deceased Donor” at the Conference Hall, JNIMS.

  • On February 9, 2024, MOHAN Foundation, in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Porompat, organized a "Felicitation of the Deceased Donor" at the Conference Hall, JNIMS. The event aimed to honour Manipur and North East India's second deceased organ donor, Mr. K. Romen Kumar Singh, aged 31, who was declared brain-stem dead on October 11, 2023, at JNIMS.

     

    Laishram Monica Devi and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, representing MOHAN Foundation (MF), attended the program. Both kidneys were successfully retrieved by the JNIMS transplant team, and following the organ-sharing principle, one kidney was transplanted to a patient on the JNIMS waiting list, and the other to a patient on the Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Pvt. Ltd. (SHRI) waiting list.

     

    Prof Laishram Deben Singh, Director, JNIMS, and Prof. Kh. Lokeshwar Singh, Medical Superintendent, JNIMS, served as the Chief Guest and President of the program, respectively. Stakeholders from various departments and institutes participated, including Kripadarshini Advanced Hospital, Imphal Heart Institute, and Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Pvt. Ltd.

     

    Ms. Udayini hosted the program, and Prof. Lokeshwar welcomed the guests and attendees. In his presidential address, Prof. Lokeshwar appreciated the collective efforts that led to this organ donation, expressing joy at initiating deceased organ donation at JNIMS. He thanked Ms. Monica and Ms. Udayini for their sacrifice and crucial role in uniting all stakeholders.

     

    Ms. Monica presented a video depicting the organ donation process on October 11, 2024. The Chief Guest and President felicitated the late donor's brother with a shawl, certificate, and an MF coaster. Prof. Deben praised the family's difficult decision, acknowledging the enduring legacy of enriching others' lives.

     

    Certificates of appreciation from MF were handed over to the Brain Death Committee members and the Transplant Team, JNIMS. Prof. Sukham Thoibahenba Singh, Department of Anaesthesiology, JNIMS, delivered a vote of gratitude, and the program was attended by close to 60 participants
