MOHAN Foundation conducts an Awareness Program at Government Medical College

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited by Dr. N. G. Tripude Vice-Dean of Government Medical College, to give a talk on Deceased Organ Donation. The talk was for undergraduate and postgraduates of MBBS.  The session took place at AVI Hall Government Medical College, Nagpur on 14th August 2014.

     

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Director of MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur Centre conducted that talk. He explained the concepts of Organ Donation, Brain Death and Organ Transplantation. He highlighted which organs and tissues can be donated after brain death, natural death, and live donation. He explained that after brain death it is impossible to come back to life & with the consent of the family, more than six patients with organ failure can get the gift of life. 

     

    He explained the critical points in the process – early identification, certification, maintenance of a brain dead patient, counseling of the family, organ allocation and transplantation.  He said that the success of a transplant depended on the cooperation of many stakeholders. He offered the help of MOHAN Foundation trained counselors and transplant coordinators, whenever there may be a case in the Government hospital.

     

     After the talk he gave information about MOHAN Foundation activities. Thereafter he requested the students to use MOHAN Foundation website and use to toll free number to clarify any doubts.

     

    The Dean, Vice dean and senior doctors from other departments were present. 200 students attended the program & 25 people signed the pledge form.

     

    Some question asked by the participant as given below.

    1)     Who will certify brain death?

    2)      Has unrelated organ transplant happened in Nagpur?

    3)     Is it mandatory for brain death declaration?

     

    At last Dr. N.G. Tripude thanked Dr. Ravi Wankhede for his time and effort and he also thanked the students for their participation.
