MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mr. Saidulu, Biology Faculty, Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS), Bibinagar to conduct an awareness session for their students at Zilla Parishad High School on November 13, 2014 as a part of their two day Children’s Day celebrations followed by cultural programs the next day.
There were about 400 students that have actively participated in the event and all the staff members were distributed donor cards and family donor cards. All the students were provided with information brochures and activity reports of MOHAN Foundation. Some of the students requested for donor cards for their family members and were distributed.
Dr. Bhanu Chandra of MOHAN Foundation spoke about the importance of deceased organ donation, religious and cultural barriers involved with organ donation & eye donation, benefits of transplantation, T.H.O 1994 Act, concept of brain death and myths surrounding organ donation.
Students were really motivated during the presentation and to our surprise came up with a lot of questions on the technical aspects of organ donation, advantages of deceased organ donation, requirement and availability of organs for ill patients and legal aspects involved in organ donation.
We thank Mr. Kumara Swamy, Head Master of Zilla Parishad High School, Bibinagar, for helping us in organizing this event to promote organ donation. We also thank all the students for their active participation and hope that this event has ignited the young minds on organ donation.
As a part of our new program Public Awareness of Rural India (PARI), we welcome many more invitations from rural areas to conduct such events.
