On December 28, 2024, MOHAN Foundation actively participated in the Free Eye Camp held at Salam Tharoijam Community Hall, Lamsang, Imphal-West, Manipur. Representing the Foundation was Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, who set up an organ donation information and pledge desk alongside the Eye Bank team.
The camp, organized by the Chief Medical Officer, Imphal West, in collaboration with the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI), provided a range of medical services. These included consultations with specialists in Medicine, Gynaecology, Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Ophthalmology; blood investigations; medicine distribution; eye testing; and free distribution of prescription spectacles. Additionally, awareness talks on organ and eye donation were key highlights of the event.
Dr. Jayshree Takhellambam, District Nodal Officer, Imphal-West, coordinated the program. Hon’ble Member of Legislative Assembly for Lamsang Constituency, Sri Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh, graced the occasion with his presence, encouraging citizens to utilize the facilities. He also distributed free spectacles provided under NPCB&VI.
During her session, Ms. Monica elaborated on the importance of organ, eye, and whole-body donation. She provided insights into the role and significance of the Eye Bank, stressing the need for community participation in such noble causes. The information desk she managed facilitated discussions on donation processes, addressing queries and clarifying misconceptions. Ms. Monica also shared heartening examples of individuals in Manipur who have pledged to donate.
Eye Bank counsellors distributed FAQs about eye donation and emphasized the importance of discussing the decision with family members.
The event yielded significant results, with eight pledges for eye donation through the Manipur State Eye Bank and three organ donation registrations via the NOTTO website. Approximately 200 citizens received valuable information about organ, eye, and whole-body donation, marking a successful awareness drive.
