  • On September 06, 2024 MOHAN Foundation set up an information desk on organ donation at Poonamallee Bus Terminus in Chennai. Ms. Arshiya Fathima, (Helpline Counsellor), Mr. Sharanraj and Mr. Stephen Joy (Interns from MMM College of Health Sciences) organized the desk and distributed information brochures to people and students at the bus terminus. They also approached  auto drivers and  owners in shops close to the bus terminus. The presence of this information desk was announced in the public speaker at the terminus.

Travelers waiting at the terminus were very supportive in creating awareness on organ donation and asked their questions openly. As next day was Ganesh Chaturthi, many people were travelling to their home town to celebrate the festival.  College student showed interest in sharing the brochure with their Whatsapp groups. This initial response was encouraging, suggesting that the public is open to exploring this important topic.

Some of the questions received included:

    1.     Can we donate blood at your organization?

    2.     Will malpractices happen in organ donation?

    3.     How to pledge as an organ donor?

    4.     How to apply for “transplant co-ordinator” course?

    5.     What is the process of voluntary body donation?

Around 280 brochures were distributed and more than 15 people pledged for organ donation. MOHAN Foundation extends its gratitude to the Metropolitan Transport Corporation and the officials at Poonamallee Bus Terminus for their support in setting up the information desk.
