  • Under the auspices of AIIMS Rishikesh, MOHAN Foundation set up an information desk to promote organ donation during the eye camp held at the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) on July 5, 2024. This event was organized in collaboration with the Rishikesh Eye Bank and the Department of Ophthalmology, AIIMS Rishikesh.

The program included general eye check-ups, the distribution of medicines, and efforts to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation.

Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader at MOHAN Foundation, stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh, set up the information desk, where FAQs on organ donation were displayed and distributed to enhance understanding of the topic.

The eye camp beneficiaries, along with Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA), Anganwadi Workers (AWW), and the staff of UPHC Rishikesh, raised numerous queries:

    - Who can be an organ donor?

    - What is brain death?

    - What are tissues?

    - While alive, how many organs can be donated?

    - Is blood matching compulsory for organ transplantation?

    - What is the procedure to register for organ donation after death?

    - Is it possible to fill out the pledge form offline?

    - Just as in living donation, where one can donate organs to family members, is it possible to donate organs to family members after brain death as well?

    - How long after brain death can organs be donated?

    - Can organs be donated in cases of suicide?

    - Does organ donation occur in whole-body donation?

    - What is the procedure for a skin transplant, and where can it be done?

    - Is there any helpline number for the MOHAN Foundation?

    - Has AIIMS Rishikesh initiated any programs for deceased organ donation?

All queries were addressed at the desk, and it appeared that people at the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) level were quite keen to obtain information. Many were interested in learning about organ donation and transplantation.

Close to 30 participants visited the information desk.
