On 2nd August, 2013 2nd year MSc Nursing students from College of Nursing, Kannur visited Trivandrum Medical College (TME), Trivandrum. 20 students and 3 members of faculty participated in the session.
Mr. Johnson A, Project Manager, Mrithasanjeevani, Kerala welcomed the group and gave an introductory talk about KNOS (Kerala Network for Organ Sharing) and its functions. He explained about the process of organ allocation in the State. Following that; Mr. Aneesh P V, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Trivandrum educated them on organ donation; importance of organ donation, Transplantation of Human Organ Act (THO), 1994 and importance of donor card. A video about brain stem death was screened at the session. It was an interactive session and the participants were especially moved by the real life stories that were narrated to them.
At the end of the session donor card and information brochures were distributed to the students. All the students pledged their organs by signing the donor card and promised to carry it with them.
