On February 09, 2016, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation at Don Bosco Animation and Research Kendra at Jamianagar, Okhla, New Delhi.
The initiative to organise the session was taken by Ms. Mareena Thomas who worked with the organisation before joining MOHAN Foundation.
Don Bosco Animation and Research Kendra is an animation and professional training cum research center reaching out to youth workers, leaders and management personnel in caring profession carrying out its mission among the youth especially the marginalized. Youth ministry is the key role of Don Bosco Society. A number of projects are being carried out through DB ARK for the youth as well as youth workers. And the specialty of all the projects is that they are all research backed. Although there are a number of projects being carried out, but there is a common thread running through all the projects and that is the good news.
Ms. Pallavi Kumar explained the concepts of organ donation and transplantation primarily focusing on the types of donations, how to diagnose brain death, tissue donation, the Transplant Law of India and statistics on the said subject. A short film on brain death was shown. The session was conducted in an interactive manner where the participants chipped in with their views on recent coverage of organ donation stories in the media.
Throughout the session there were unhesitant queries from the participants that were professionally addressed by the MF representatives.
The pictures and stories of few donors were also shown. Ms. Kumar emphasized to the participants the need to focus their efforts on promoting organ donation. She also shared how the donor family feels good about the decision of donating the organs of their loved one and remain in touch with the Foundation, few also volunteering to help promote the cause when required. Participants were encouraged to spread the message of organ donation among their friends and families.
12 participants attended the session and 26 donor cards were picked up.
