  • On July 01, 2024, MOHAN Foundation (MF) conducted an awareness session on organ donation during the Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) workshop at Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), Connaught Place. Ms. Simran Anand, accompanied by Ms. Sanya Santosh, both Program Officers at MF NCR, led the session, which was attended by nursing officers.

The session was coordinated by Ms. Kala Vivekanandan, CNE Course Coordinator at LHMC. This marked MF's third time leading a session at the CNE workshop.

Ms. Simran began by assessing the participants' knowledge about organ donation. A participant shared how her son's partial liver donation saved her life, while another shared how she saved her husband's life by donating a kidney.

Using a PowerPoint presentation, Ms. Simran covered topics including:

    - What organ donation is and its importance

    - Who can be an organ donor

    - Organ donation during life and after death

    - Brain death and the difference between coma and brain death

    - Eye and skin donation, and preserving corneas after death

    - The Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994

    - Whole body donation

    - How individuals can contribute to this cause

    - Myths and facts about organ donation

The session was highly interactive, with enthusiastic participation and numerous questions. Questions raised included:

    - Is the donor family informed of the recipient's details?

    - Does brain death occur in suicidal cases?

    - Does the donor's age matter?

Approximately 40 participants attended the session.
