  • On April 2, 2025, an awareness program on “Organ Donation” was held on the ground floor, OPD waiting area at AIIMS Rishikesh. Organized by the College of Nursing, AIIMS Rishikesh, in collaboration with the MOHAN Foundation, the event aimed to educate the public on the significance of organ donation.

The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Rakhi Mishra, Assistant Professor, College of Nursing, AIIMS Rishikesh, who emphasized the life-saving impact of organ donation. She explained how donated organs provide hope and a second chance at life for patients with end-stage organ failure.

A street play (nukkad natak) on organ donation was performed by first-year nursing students of AIIMS Rishikesh, in collaboration with the MOHAN Foundation. The play effectively engaged hospital visitors, including patients, attendants, security personnel, and nursing staff, while conveying crucial messages on the need for organ donation.

The session also included an interactive Q&A, where attendees actively participated and raised various queries, which were addressed by Mr. Mahipal Chauhan and Mr. Sanchit Arora:

    • Which organs can be donated to a near relative while alive?

    • What precautions must a living liver donor take?

    • How long does it take for the liver to fully regenerate after donation?

    • What is the success rate of kidney transplantation?

    • How long after death can eye donation be performed, and what are the required formalities?

    • How does skin donation take place?

    • What is the procedure for someone in need of an organ transplant?

    • What organ donation and transplantation facilities are currently available at AIIMS Rishikesh?

    • In whole-body donation, can organs still be used to save lives?

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Mahipal, acknowledging the efforts of the College of Nursing, MOHAN Foundation, and all attendees. A group photo session with participants of the nukkad natak marked the event’s conclusion.

Approximately 70 participants attended the program. Notably, six nursing students registered for organ donation on the NOTTO website, and one attendant pledged to donate their corneas on the spot.
