  • On March 26, 2025, MOHAN Foundation (MF) conducted an awareness session on organ donation for traffic police officers at the Traffic Police Headquarters, Todapur, New Delhi. The session was led by Ms. Sanya Santosh, Programme Officer, MF NCR, with support from Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer, MF NCR.

Ms. Sanya began by introducing the MOHAN Foundation and providing an overview of organ donation in India. She highlighted key aspects of organ donation and transplantation. To help explain the concept of brain death, a short, informative film was shown. Ms. Simran then elaborated on brain death certification and its legal aspects.

The session covered several important topics, including the meaning and importance of organ donation, who can become an organ donor, the differences between living and deceased donors, and the organs that can be donated during life and after death. Participants also learned about brain death, eye donation and cornea preservation after death, key provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994, and the MOHAN Foundation's role in promoting organ donation. The facilitators also discussed how individuals can support the cause, common myths and facts about organ donation, and the difference between coma and brain death.

Ms. Simran addressed a common misconception about organ donation during the COVID-19 pandemic, clarifying that organs cannot be donated after natural death and explaining how COVID-19 posed challenges to organ donation due to its infectious nature.

The session was attended by approximately 45 traffic police officers, who actively engaged in the discussion and gained valuable insights into the importance of organ donation.
