On July 17, 2024, Mr. Gabriel from the MOHAN Foundation held an organ donation awareness session at the Saint Joseph Vaz Spiritual Renewal Centre in Old Goa. The session was attended by the Deans of the Archdiocese of Goa. The Archdiocese is divided into three zones: North, Central, and South, with a total of 19 deaneries and their respective parishes.
Mr. Gabriel began by introducing himself and the Foundation. He shared that his personal experience with a family member's kidney transplant inspired him to spread awareness about organ donation in Goa. The Most Reverend Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Goa and Daman, and Fr. Simião Purificação Fernandes, the Auxiliary Bishop of Goa and Daman, were also present at the event.
During the session, Mr. Gabriel emphasized the importance of organ donation, discussed the different organs suitable for donation, and explained the concept of brain stem death. He used a PowerPoint presentation to illustrate these topics and also spoke about eye and whole-body donation.
At the end of the session, Mr. Gabriel requested the Archbishop of Goa's assistance in helping the MOHAN Foundation reach out to all parishes in Goa to educate the population about the significance of organ donation.
