Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Khudda Lahora, Chandigarh

  • On 17th December 2024, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mrs. Harpreet Kaur, NSS Program Officer to conduct an awareness talk on organ donation for their NSS students at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School Khudda Lahora Chandigarh.  Around 75 students and 5 teachers attended the session.

     

    In the beginning, Ms. Neha Sharma Katoch introduced herself and asked the students, “Which organ can be donated while living”? Most of the students were aware about kidney transplant.

     

    Participants were given an introduction and presentation on organ donation and brain death.

     

    In this talk, she explained the following points: -

    • Organ donation and its need
    • When and how does organ donation take place
    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death
    • The transplant waiting list in India
    • Brain death
    • Difference between brain death and coma
    • Contraindications to organ donation
    • Transplant Law
    • Role of MOHAN Foundation
    • Organ donation myths and facts
    • Eye donation

     

    The entire group got motivated and convinced to support the cause of organ donation. The awareness talk ended with a vote of thanks by Principal Mr. Kuldeep Singh Batth. He encouraged the students to sensitize the society about organ donation and also how undergoing an organ transplant can lengthen a person’s life and allow those with a chronic illness to live a normal life span. He ended up saying that pledging for organ donation is a generous and a worthwhile decision that can save lives.
