On 27 September, 2024, an Organ Donation Awareness Session was held at the Prakash Institute of India in Wadi, Nagpur, in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Nagpur, the National Council of Churches of India (NCCI), and the MOHAN Foundation. Dr. Sameer S. Jahagirdar, a Consultant Plastic, Cosmetic, and Burns Surgeon and Vice-President of IMA Nagpur, delivered an informative talk on various aspects of organ donation. He covered topics including the definition and importance of organ donation, who can be a donor, and the differences between natural death and brain death. Dr. Jahagirdar explained which organs and tissues can be donated in both scenarios, clarified the time sensitivity of organ transplants, and discussed age limits for donation. He also provided insights into body donation, hand transplants, and the roles of regulatory bodies such as ZTCC, SOTTO, ROTTO, and NOTTO. Additionally, he spoke about the Organ Transplant Act of 1994. The session saw the participation of approximately 100 students, and Mr. Bulu Behera from the MOHAN Foundation distributed brochures to attendees. Participants raised questions about heart donation after natural death, the difference between coma and brain death, and the leadership of the MOHAN Foundation. Notably, two students signed consent forms for organ donation, reflecting the session's positive impact in promoting awareness and encouraging future donors.
