Awareness Session on Organ Donation held at Bajaj Nagar Police Station

  • On 12th July 2021, MOHAN Foundation in association with Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation was invited by Mr. Ramesh Kanhere- PI of Bajaj Nagar Police Station, Nagpur to conduct a session on organ donation for his colleagues.

    Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi introduced MOHAN Foundation and explained its mission and objectives to the audience.

    She began her presentation by asking the participants about their personal thoughts and feeling about organ donation, she then touched upon the following topics about organ donation and its importance in India.

    1. Why donate organs? - huge gap between the need and availability of organs.
    2. Who can donate? - Law and types of donors: living and deceased
    3. How THOA has classified related and unrelated donors
    4. When it comes to illegal activities in organ donation, how stringent the law is?
    5. Concept of brain death and circulatory death was introduced
    6. What can be donated after brain death and circulatory death?
    7. Eye and Skin donation and its procedures were explained in a simple way. Myths surrounding the topic of organ donation were discussed in detail.
    8. Scenario of organ donation in India Vis-à-vis rest of the world was displayed to the audience.

     

    She explained the role of police in MLC cases. Around 44 police staff attended the session and about 22 pledged their organs. All the queries were answered promptly and patiently with examples.

     

    We thank Mr. Ramesh Kanhere - PI of Bajaj Nagar Police Station for inviting us and giving us the opportunity to create awareness about organ donation to police personnel.
