  • On February 7, 2025, MOHAN Foundation conducted an organ donation awareness session at Incuspaze Campus-1, Gurugram. The session was led by Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MF-NCR, accompanied by Ms. Poonam Sharma, Curriculum Coordinator at MF, and Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader at MF, stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh. The session was organized at the invitation of Mr. Sanjay Choudhary, Founder & CEO, Incuspaze.

Incuspaze, India’s leading workspace provider, offers managed offices, co-working spaces, and traditional office setups across 44 locations in 18 cities. With a focus on technology-driven solutions, Incuspaze fosters collaboration and growth for businesses at various stages.

The session began with Ms. Pallavi Kumar engaging participants by inviting them to share their knowledge and experiences related to organ failure and transplantation. She provided a comprehensive overview of organ donation in India, covering key topics such as the importance of organ donation, who can be a donor, the difference between live and deceased donation, and organ donation during life and after death. She also explained brain death and how it differs from coma, the process of eye and skin donation, and the necessary steps to preserve corneas after death. Legal aspects, such as the Transplantation of Human Organs & Tissues Act, 1994, were also discussed, along with whole-body donation, and common myths and facts about organ donation.

Ms. Kumar emphasized the importance of consent in organ donation and clarified that monetary benefits should not play a role in the process. She also explained the opt-in system prevalent in India and the USA, stating that pledging for organ donation is not legally binding. Sharing her personal experience, she spoke about donating her father’s corneas, highlighting the simplicity of corneal donation and advocating for open discussions within families.

Participants actively engaged in the session and raised several questions, including what happens if a donor is willing to donate, but the family refuses, whether pledging for organ donation provides any priority if a family member needs an organ, if a family can request doctors to perform an apnoea test on a ventilated patient, and whether organs can be donated after natural death.

The session concluded with participants appreciating MOHAN Foundation’s efforts. Many expressed their intention to discuss organ donation with their families and consider making a pledge. A total of 45 individuals attended, with 15 participating in person and 30 joining online.
