On September 25, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation conducted an engaging sensitization session on organ donation for students at J. A. Bhagat Junior College in Kharkopar.
The session was led by Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi, who introduced the foundation as a not-for-profit NGO dedicated to raising awareness about organ donation. She provided a comprehensive overview of key concepts, including the differences between circulatory death and brain death. Ms. Dwivedi discussed the various organs and tissues eligible for donation in both scenarios, such as corneas, skin, and bones, and highlighted advancements in medical practices, including the potential for hand donation.
The session emphasized the profound impact of organ and tissue donation, illustrated through real-life success stories and discussions about green corridors that facilitate the swift transport of organs. Ms. Dwivedi also tackled common myths surrounding deceased organ donation, offering factual clarifications to enhance understanding.
Importantly, she encouraged participants to initiate conversations about organ donation with their families and advocated for carrying a Donor Card as an effective way to communicate one’s wishes regarding donation.
The event saw a strong turnout, with 186 students in attendance, of which 84 pledged to support organ donation, along with faculty members from the college. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Patole, the coordinator, for inviting us, and to all attendees for their commitment to promoting this vital cause.
