


On 1st October, 2013 an awareness session on organ donation and organ transplantation was organized for the students and faculty members of Madras Institute Technology, Chennai. Ms. Kavitha S and Ms. Sunitha.A.T, Transplant Coordinators', MOHAN Foundation, Chennai represented the Foundation and conducted the session.
The transplant Coordinators in their presentation aimed at sensitizing the participants about the importance of organ donation. She covered the following topics: activities of MOHAN Foundation across the country to strengthen the deceased organ donation programme; types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased; difference between brain death, cardiac death and coma; causes of brain death; the need for organ donation; about cornea donation; importance of consent by next-of-kin for donation to take place; importance of the donor card and about MOHAN Foundation donor card registration.
The participants raised several queries such as in case of brain death who should be contacted for organ donation to take place, what organs can be donated after death, whether brain transplant is a possibility and how to register for donor card.
A total of 250 students attended the session and 100 of them picked up the donor card.
