Awareness Session on Organ Donation Conducted for the NCC Cadets of 5 Punjab BN NCC Patiala at NCC Academy Rup Nagar, Punjab

  • On 19th June, 2024, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Commandant, Col Sanjay Roy, 5 Punjab Battalion NCC Patiala, to conduct an awareness session for their NCC Cadets and J.C.Os at NCC Academy Rupnagar Punjab. Around 450 Cadets from various School & Colleges of Punjab and 12 Officers participated in the program.

    Ms. Neha Sharma began the session by asking the participants about their understanding of organ donation. She then explained the concept of organ donation to the participants. She discussed with them organs that can be donated after natural death and brain death and asked the cadets about their perceptions of donation after death. She also discussed the MOHAN Foundation's role and how youth can serve as ambassadors for the cause of organ donation.

    Ms. Neha Sharma then explained the current status of organ donation in India. She also explained the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation with the help of a PowerPoint presentation.

     The following topics were explained in detail:

    • What is organ donation and its need in the society.

    • Who can be an organ donor?

    • Explanation about live and deceased donor

    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death

    • Brain death

    • Eye donation and steps required to preserve cornea after death.

    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994

    • Role of MOHAN Foundation

    • What an individual can do to contribute for this noble cause

    • Myths and facts about organ donation

    • Difference between coma and brain death

     

    It was indeed an amazing session. It was an interactive session with the Cadets. All the Cadets, Officers and Commandant in the session expressed their support for the noble cause.
