  • On October 26, 2024, the MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness talk and set up an information desk on organ donation at Omkar CHS Society, Ulwe, in celebration of the Diwali Fair. The program was arranged by Mrs. Seena, President of Lyness Club, Ulwe, and Mrs. Rai, Secretary of Omkar CHS, with the aim of educating society members about organ donation.

A blood donation camp was also organized alongside the organ donation session. The session was inaugurated by Ms. Prarthana from the MOHAN Foundation, who served as the chief guest for the event.

Ms. Prarthana introduced the MOHAN Foundation and conducted a brief ice-breaker to gauge the audience’s familiarity with organ donation. Upon discovering that the audience consisted mainly of non-medicos with limited knowledge on the subject, she proceeded to explain key concepts related to organ donation, including the necessity and timing of transplantation, the various organs that can be donated, types of donors, types of death, and the viability of organs after retrieval. She also clarified the differences between brain death and cardiac death, elaborated on the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, and addressed common myths and misconceptions about organ donation. Additionally, she provided information on skin donation, eye donation, and body donation.

The audience actively participated, asking several insightful questions, including:

    • The difference between living donation and deceased donation
    • The procedure for cornea transplantation

Ms. Prarthana addressed all queries promptly. All participants visited the stall, and approximately 85 individuals attended the session, with 24 participants filling out pledge forms to commit to organ donation.

The MOHAN Foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Seena, President of Lyness Club, Ulwe, and Mrs. Rai, Secretary of Omkar CHS, for inviting us and supporting the cause of organ donation.
