Awareness Session On Organ Donation at Pillai College, Navi Mumbai

  • On Saturday, July 27, 2024, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation for the non-teaching staff of Pillai College, Panvel. The event took place during a health check-up camp organized by Mr. Jitendra from Apollo Hospital, Navi Mumbai.

    Mr. Jitendra introduced MOHAN Foundation as an NGO dedicated to promoting deceased organ donation. Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi then took the stage to explain that MOHAN Foundation stands for "Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network." She outlined the foundation's mission and objectives and provided a comprehensive overview of organ donation, including its definition, the process, and the reasons behind it. Ms. Prarthana also covered the THOA Act 2011, which governs organ donation.

    The session included detailed explanations on brain stem death, its diagnosis, certification procedures, and the roles of authorized certifiers. Additionally, she addressed topics such as skin donation, eye donation, organ donation, and body donation. She also tackled religious barriers and myths related to organ donation.

    Approximately 28 staff members attended the session, and information brochures were distributed. Attendees asked questions about coma and how it differs from brain death, which Ms. Prarthana answered promptly. By the end of the session, 16 members pledged to become organ donors.

    MOHAN Foundation extends its gratitude to Pillai College for inviting them and supporting the cause of organ donation.
